Ms. Shaquila has begun some community service work with our 8th graders as they prepare for high school. Here is a highlight from their first experience at Columbus House.
“We just finished doing community service at Columbus house (A.M., J.E., V.K. and Y.M-G.). They did a wonderful job and I am so proud of them; they served for three hours with no incentive. They prepared and served meals for 80 clients at Columbus house. With no complaints at all, they smiled the whole time, they were respectful and proud to serve.
They cut up 20 pounds of sweet potatoes and made fresh fruit salad using 25 pounds of fresh fruit. They mixed and seasoned vegetables, happily. They also took a tour of the shelter and asked lots of questions and were so excited to help out.
The staff asked if we can come back weekly, they did not even know the girls were still in middle school. They thought the girls were juniors in high school because VK asked if she could put this experience on her resume (this is how mature they presented themselves!)
They displayed everything a phoenix should I was so proud to say they were coming from Domus. I attached some pictures of the girls working in case you guys want to see them at work.”

The Domus Academy Phoenix basketball team has been busy this sesaon!
On Wednesday, February 20th – Students went to a University of Hartford basketball game for a night game. Students and staff had a great time! Four of our more gregarious students participated in a halftime hula-hoop contest, and our own Brandyn Hernandez was the winner! Check out the pictures in our album. DA students, as always, represented the school and themselves impeccably and it was a treat to bring them to the game
On Friday, March 1st the quarter 2 honor roll students were taken to a movie and pizza to celebrate all their hard work. We had a great time blowing off some steam and having a relaxing, fun day!
Students have begun CMT testing, which will continue through the end of March. Students have been preparing and practicing their test-taking for months in preparation. Domus Academy students are ready to ROCK THE CMTS and we know they will do GREAT! For more practice, click here.
